“Not that the story need be long, but it will take a long while to make it short”
– Robert David Thoreau
Most of my time is spent writing and making short stories. Sometimes they are literally short stories, sometimes they are films, and sometimes they are adverts that need to convey the story of a brand or client.
Keeping it short is often a challenge – how do you prevent a short film from becoming a sketch? Or a short piece of prose from becoming an anecdote? You might find those distinctions petty, but all of us as consumers of stories and as customers, are naturally attuned to the distinction between a genuine story and a shaggy dog tale.
You don’t need me to tell you that humans have been attracted to stories from the dawn of our existence. The same impulse that drove our ancestors to draw scenarios on cave walls, is the same impulse that keeps us reading to the final page of a good book, or fills us with empathy for a product made by a brand with a rags to riches story.
I am obsessed with story in all formats and its power to entertain, inform and persuade. Perhaps you have a story that needs to be told, or your business or website needs a video to convey your brand’s ethos; maybe your band needs a music video with a compelling narrative? If so, get in touch for a free consultation. Along with my contacts in the South Wales creative community, we can ensure that your story is getting told or seen in the right way, by the right people.
